Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center(BESLC) is an ambulatory surgery center located in Waltham, MA. You are caring for Ophthalmology surgical patients. The RN staff work collaboratively with interns, residents, fellows and attending physicians. Excellent observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
We are currently seeking an Interim Clinical Supervisor with OR experience for our Waltham location
Summary of Duties:
The Clinical Supervisor is a registered nurse responsible for total patient care during the OR period. In addition, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the clinical staff assigned to the respective areas and maintaining a safe working environment for all patients, staff, and family members.
Performance Requirements:
Skilled in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making in order to achieve organizational objectives. A working knowledge of the surgery center’s medical staff, computer systems, and software systems. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to diverse populations on an individual and group basis.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of a college or university and/or accredited school of nursing. Must hold a current license from the State Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse.
- Experience in the Preop/PACU/OR preferred.
- Current BCLS & ACLS are mandatory.
Performance Responsibilities & Example of Duties:
Quality of Care:
- The establishment and upholding of BESLC’s policies and procedures in the operating room and back hall areas.
- Acts as a liaison between the physicians and the patient care team as well as the physicians and family members with regard to scheduling, complaints, adding on cases, complications with the surgery schedule, etc. and inform the Clinical Director of any complaints and or complications of surgery.
- Responsible for & or overseeing the ordering of all OR supplies and medications.
- Responsible for the implementation of all BESLC policies and procedures during each operative day in the operating room and back hall areas.
- Assures adequate staffing of all areas under his/her jurisdiction and organizes/delegates daily patient care assignments equitably.
- Works in coordination with the Preop/Pacu Supervisor, Human Resources, Business Manager, & Clinical Director for ad placement and hiring of new staff.
- Responsible for overseeing the drug outdate checks in the operating rooms, OR refrigerator, and back hallway area.
- Responsible for maintaining the OR refrigerator and freezer daily temperature checks and documentation.
- Responsible for weekly checks on oxygen tank bank status and communicating with Praxair in the event of problems or delivery issues.
- Responsible for completeness of implant & specimen log kept in the OR.
- Responsible for overseeing the DART test (Bowie Dick) & Biological Indicator logs maintained in the sterile room for completeness and accuracy.
- Responsible for the ophthalmic lens room inventory and ordering.
- Responsible for checking the hazardous waste closet for proper box preparation and disposal completion with Stericycle including documentation.
- Responsible for maintaining the infection log in the event of endophthalmitis cases.
- Responsible for completing the quarterly PCAC report and QA/RM spreadsheet supplied by the Clinical Director.
- Complete quarterly drills (7 in total): Fire Drill 4x/year, 1 Code Blue Drill, 1 Internal Disaster Drill , & 1 External Disaster Drill with staff signatures for attendance
- Keeps skills up to date with continuing education participation.
- Coordinates new employee orientation and assignment of appropriate preceptors as well as responsible for the employee’s orientation. Provides the new employee in conjunction with the Clinical Director with an understanding of all policies and procedures upon completion of the 90-day familiarization period.
- Will assist Preop/PACU Supervisor with information on employee status in order to successfully complete annual reviews for staff members in the operating room and back hall area.
- Responsible for staff members conducting themselves in coordination with the BESLC policies and procedures.
- Promotes an environment in which the patient care team works cooperatively toward objectives and goals.
- Assists the Clinical Director in implementing TQM assignments biannually.
- Responsible for developing the monthly employee schedules for the Preop/PACU/OR.
- Maintains current information and understanding of all ambulatory surgery regulations set forth by AAAHC, MA State Regulations, & Medicare Regulations as informed by the Clinical Director
- Supervises and coordinates operational efficiency of equipment and supplies in the Operating Room and Preop areas (i.e.: monitors, stretch-chairs, computers, wall suction units, Phaco/Retina machines, lenses, and supplies etc.) and informs the Clinical Director of repairs and supplies that are needed.
Relationships/Communication:
- Acts as liaison between the physicians, patients, and the patients’ families.
- Maintains open communication with staff when planning patient care.
- Maintains constant communication with Clinical Director regarding staffing needs, concerns, and patient care issues.
- Conducts staff meetings with the Clinical Director as items and issues arise in order to provide staff members with current information on any new changes.
